We can look forward to a warmer than typical final few days of summer 2013. Temperatures and the humidity will continue to go up at the end of the week as we get ready for the next front. The best threat of rain and storms will be Friday and Friday night. We will have to watch this closely as the weather could affect the football and soccer games.

The Washington Navy Yard, site of a mass shooting that killed 12 people, remained closed Wednesday to all but essential personnel as the official investigation went on. Questions remained as to why Aaron Alexis, a former Navy reservist with chronicled gun-related incidents and mental issues, was allowed clearance to enter the base.

Alexis opened fire at about 8:20 a.m. Monday at the Naval Sea Systems Command building, killing civilians who worked on the base and injuring eight others, before dying in a firefight with police.

In the wake of the incident, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus ordered two reviews of the Navy's security clearance and screening procedures Tuesday.

Crop Bistro & Bar chef and owner Steve Schimoler will open two new restaurants, Crop Kitchen & Vine and Cropicana, in the new Flats East Bank development. Both restaurants, which will be developed as part of Phase II opening in Spring 2015, will offer diverse dining concepts and riverfront views.

"There is no question the Flats offers Cleveland's best real estate with its riverfront location and we wanted to be part of it. This is a strategic move for us to join in the positive momentum of yet another growing neighborhood in Cleveland," says Schimoler.

Crop Kitchen & Vine and Cropicana will offer two distinct concepts in 10,000 square feet of space, each with their own expansive riverfront patios and open kitchens with chef seating, a signature of Schimoler venues. While both menus will be unique and decidedly different than the original Crop Bistro & Bar, both will offer the familiarity of Crop's innovative "sometimes whimsical" cuisine.
