ELYRIA: Attempted child abduction at bus stop

ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - Elyria Police confirm that they are investigating an attempted child abduction that happened at 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17.

"It would scare almost any kid I would think. We usually keep an eye on who's coming and going," says Randy Bare.

Police say that an 11-year-old girl gave her scary account of what happened as she waited for her school bus.

As she waited at her bus stop, which is located in the 2400 block of West River Road, she reports that a small red Kia-type sedan, pulled up to where she was.

Out jumped a woman with her arms outstretched saying, "Do you want a hug?  I can take you to school."

The little girl ran and hid behind a shed.  She reports that the woman kept searching for her while saying, "All I want to do is give you a hug and a ride."  The little girl says that the woman then pulled out a cell phone and told someone to get the car.  A male appeared and got into the car.  Once the bus arrived the little girl says that she ran to it and boarded immediately.  The child pointed out the woman to the bus driver.

Police say that the incident was reported by the child's mother on Wednesday.

Authorities say that the woman is described as a 5'4 white female, 200 lbs., with brown hair that was pulled into a bun, wearing glasses and a dark business suit with a pink blouse.  The guy is described as a 6'0 ft. tall white male wearing a black hoodie and tattered jeans.

The Elyria Police Department is continuing their investigation into the matter.
