Browns 31, Vikings 27-- Postgame Notes

Cleveland Browns at Minnesota Vikings | Mall of America Field | Sept. 22, 2013

  • Browns Head Coach Rob Chudzinski earned his first win as an NFL head coach.
  • Making his Browns debut and second career start, QB Brian Hoyer completed 30-of-54 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns. All of those figures represent career-highs. He joins Jeff Garcia (2004) as the only Browns quarterbacks since 1999 to win their debut start for the team. Hoyer's 321 passing yards are the second-most (Kelly Holcomb 326 in 2002) by a Browns quarterback since 1999 in his debut start.
  • Hoyer is the first Browns quarterback to throw for three touchdowns in a game since Brady Quinn had three against San Diego on Dec. 6, 2009, a stretch of 54 games.
  • TE Jordan Cameron tied a Browns single-game record with three receiving touchdowns. It is the 11th time a Browns player accomplished the feat and the first since Braylon Edwards against Miami on Oct. 14, 2007. Cameron joins Steve Heiden (vs. Cincinnati on Nov. 28, 2004) as the only Browns tight ends to record three receiving touchdowns in a game.

  • Cameron leads the team this season with 269 receiving yards, which already surpasses his previous career single-season best of 226 set in 2012. Cameron's four receiving touchdowns and 20 receptions are the most by a Browns tight end in the first three games of a season, and his receiving yardage is the second most.

  • Making his 2013 debut, WR Josh Gordon recorded career-highs in receptions (10) and yards (146), and added a 47-yard touchdown. This marked his second career 100-yard receiving game. His 10 receptions are tied for the seventh-most by a Brown in a game and are the most by a Browns wide receiver since Kevin Johnson had 11 against San Francisco on Sept. 21, 2003. Gordon has six career touchdown grabs, all of which have been at least 20 yards or longer. He also registered his first career rushing attempt, which went for 22 yards.

  • The Browns were successful on a fake punt and fake field goal in the first half. DB Josh Aubrey took a direct snap on a fake punt and raced 34 yards to pick up a first down. On the next drive, P Spencer Lanning connected with Cameron for an 11-yard touchdown pass on a fake field goal.
  • Cleveland's six sacks are its most since totaling seven at Dallas on Nov. 18, 2012.

  • LB Jabaal Sheard totaled three tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Sheard, who has led the club in sacks in each of the past two seasons, has 17 in his career and 1.5 on the season. He also has seven career forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
  • DL Phil Taylor, John Hughes and Billy Winn each recorded their first sacks of the season. Taylor has six in his career, Hughes has four and Winn has two.
  • LB D'Qwell Jackson finished with a game-high 10 tackles (according to press box figures) and forced a fumble.  He has been a part of a takeaway in each of the three games this season. He deflected a pass, which was intercepted in the opener, recovered a fumble last week and forced a fumble today.

  • LT Joe Thomas has started and played in each of the first 99 games of his career, while C Alex Mack has started and played in each of the first 67 games of his career. Neither one of the two has missed an offensive snap during his career.

  • K Billy Cundiff connected on a field-goal attempt from 38 yards. He is 4-of-4 on field-goal attempts this season.
  • The Browns' 24 first half points were their most since scoring 27 at Detroit on Nov. 22, 2009.
