Trial underway for alleged Navy charity scammer

Jury selection began Monday morning in the trial for John Donald Cody, also known as "Bobby Thompson".

The alleged con man is accused in a multi-million dollar scam.

Prosecutors say Cody took more than $1 million from Ohioans through a bogus charity under the guise of helping Navy veterans.

Cody was arrested by US Marshals on April 30, 2012 in Portland, Ore. and brought back to Cleveland.  At the time of arrest, authorities also seized nearly $1 million that "Thompson" had locked in a storage locker.

He was one of Americas Most Wanted and elusive fugitives. Cody was on the run for more than two years in which he assumed numerous fictitious names and was known to alter his appearance.

He is charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, identity theft, fraud and money laundering.
