A late Wednesday meeting at the White House seemingly hasn't closed the gap between Republicans and Democrats nor allowed either side to come closer to ending the government shutdown.
After a 90-minute meeting with President Barack Obama, House Speaker John Boehner said Democrats won't negotiate over Obamacare, the president's signature healthcare law, something Democratic leaders confirmed.
"They want to overturn the Affordable Care Act. That's not going to happen," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, speaking outside the White House after the meeting.
The House has passed a number of bills aimed at funding the government but also stripping Obamacare of some of its provisions, something to which the Senate has said a definitive "no."
"All we're asking for is a discussion and fairness to the American people over Obamacare," said Boehner.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, said unequivocally that "Democrats won't negotiate" over Obamacare. It was the first such meeting since the shutdown began.
