Browns sticking with Weeden, exploring backup options

Berea, OH (WOIO) - Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said the team will continue to explore other options at quarterback, while Brandon Weeden takes over the starting duties again. As of Monday, they were down to Weeden and Jason Campbell, with Brian Hoyer set to have surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee.

"Obviously, we have two guys that are comfortable and that have been in the system. We'll just work through that", Chudzinski said following Monday's practice. "We have a number of different options that we can go."

Hoyer was injured during the first quarter of last Thursday night's win over the Buffalo Bills. Weeden came on in relief, to a chorus of boos, but rallied the Browns to a 37-24 win, their third straight, and first under Weeden.

If the Browns choose not to sign a backup quarterback, they'll use backup fullback/tight end MarQueis Gray as their emergency quarterback.

Weeden just returned from a sprained thumb, and has been sacked 16 times in three games.
