ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - The city of Elyria has been selected to take part in a pilot program in which first responders are allowed to give an antidote to those overdosing on drugs.
After emergency personnel are thoroughly trained, Narcan will be placed in all police cruisers and fire trucks. Once administered, Narcan can reverse an opioid overdose.
The pilot program looks to evaluate how effective it is to have Narcan at the disposal of first responders in a potentially deadly overdose situation.
The program was signed into law by Governor Kasich and will run exclusively in Lorain County for a year.
