Perfect Fall Day, Today is Unity Day, Beware When Buying Pink Products, Like Us On Facebook!

TONIGHT:  Mainly Clear.  LOW: 44

TOMORROW: Mainly Sunny.  HIGH: 72

As part of National Bullying Prevention Month, Wednesday is "Unity Day." Supporters of bullying victims are encouraged to wear orange, and share their support on social media.

The day was created by the PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center, which engages and educates communities nationwide to address bullying through creative, relevant and interactive resources.

The center says it hopes students who have experienced bullying will see people wearing orange Wednesday and know that they are not alone.

The group has also started a Facebook event for "Unity Day." Supporters are encouraged to invite their friends to spread the word about the day.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many businesses are offering special pink products, promising that a portion of the proceeds benefit breast cancer research or treatment.

Dick Eppstein of the Better Business Bureau says consumers should be careful, and take some steps to be sure their money is actually helping the cause.

First, the packaging should clearly describe the promotion and say where the money is going. It should also be fairly easy to determine how much is being given.

Legitimate promotions should also release the total amount given at the end of the campaign to the public.

Consumers can also consider making a direct donation to a charity, rather than choose to buy products as part of the promotion.
