MEDINA TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - A woman was seriously injured in a accident on I-71 northbound in Medina County after her car went off a bridge.
The Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 5:00 pm.
A Dodge Durango was traveling northbound on I-71 near SR 3 and swerved to avoid debris in the roadway.
The Durango then traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a median cable and then traveled down an embankment between two bridges before coming to final rest in a ravine.
Police say the car was operated by Tracie Layne, 42, of Brunswick, Ohio.
Layne was the only person in the car and sustained serious physical injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported by Metro Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center.
As a result of the crash, I-71 northbound had to be shut down for about 50 minutes. ODOT was on scene to assist with traffic control.
Several police agencies assisted with the incident.
Police say that a seatbelt was not used by the driver and airbags were not deployed. Drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
At this time the crash remains under investigation.
