TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bullying has become a serious issue both at school and at home for many American children.

The Centers for Disease Control says about 20 percent of students in grades 9 through 12 experience bullying. That number rises to 28 percent when expanded to sixth through twelfth graders.

Technology allows bullies to harass kids 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; not just at school. The 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey found 16 percent of high school students in grades 9 through 12 were electronically bullied in the past year.

StopBullying.gov provides a wide variety of information for parents and students about bullying, including strategies on how to prevent and stop bulling.

The site offers background information on bullying, including a firm definition. There is a special section on cyber bullying, with specific resources to help kids report bullying online.

Parents can read the risk factors for and warning signs of bullying. The website even provides strategies on how to prevent bullying, and how to respond if a child is bullied.

Users can also view a breakdown of anti-bulling laws in a specific state, including Ohio.
