LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

An officer was placed on paid leave after he shot a man Monday night he mistook for a man believed to be involved in a double homicide that happened the night before, according to Las Vegas Metro police.

The officer-involved shooting happened about 10:45 p.m. at a convenience store near the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

Police said the officer saw a man at a convenience store and thought he matched the description of a man wanted in connection with a double homicide that happened nearby Sunday night.

Investigators said the officer stopped at the convenience store, went inside and ordered the man several times to show his hands. They said the man showed one of his hands and began backing away, concealing his other hand. They said that was when the officer shot the man in the chest.

The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said the man who was shot was not armed. They also said he was not the same man believed to be involved in the double homicide Sunday night.
