Browns shut down Bryant

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns on Wednesday promoted WR BrianTyms to the active roster from the practice squad. In addition, the team placedDL Desmond Bryant on reserve/non-football illness with an irregular heartbeat.

Tyms, whose name is pronouncedTIMS, is 6-3, 204 pounds and officially in his first NFL season out of FloridaA&M. He was initially signed by the Browns off the Dolphins' practice squadon Oct. 22 and appeared in three games before spending last week on thepractice squad. Originally signed by San Francisco as an undrafted free agenton May 4, 2012, Tyms spent all of 2012 on the Dolphins' practice squad. 

He played two seasons at FloridaA&M, where he registered 45 receptions for 661 yards and four touchdowns,after spending two years at Tallahassee Community College. Tyms is a native ofFort Lauderdale, Fla., where he attended Dillard High School.

Tymswears No. 85.

Bryanthas started all 12 games and registered 45 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

Inaddition, the Browns released LB Justin Staples from the practice squad andsigned the following three players to the practice squad:
