South Carolina takes on red-hot St. Mary's in Hawaii

(RNN) - South Carolina, still reeling from its 74-68 home loss to USC Upstate, will take on streaking Saint Mary's in Honolulu, HI, Sunday at 11 p.m. ET in the Diamondhead Classic.

Oregon State (coached by first lady Michelle Obama's brother Craig Robinson), Iowa State, George Mason, Akron, Boise State and Hawai'I are the other teams in the tourney.

The Gamecocks' SinDari Thornwell leads the scoring effort with 13.6 points per game and Tyrone Johnson is averaging 12 ppg. USC (2-5) is struggling from the floor, shooting barely over 40 percent and averaging 67.9 points per game while allowing 70.3.

Saint Mary's, out of Moraga, CA, is one of the hottest teams in the country you haven't heard of. The undefeated Gaels are coming off a record-tying ninth straight win, 59-44 against American University on Thursday night.

Four Gaels average double figures: Brad Waldow, 17.6; Stephen Holt, 13.3; James Walker III, 11.3 and Beau Levesque, 11.0.

They hit a sizzling 49 percent from the floor and have canned 70-of-161 (43.5 percent) from three-point range.
