Fatal crash in Wayne County

Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that happened on US 250 in Wayne County, at around 5 p.m. On Thursday.

The accident happened in Apple Creek, on Route 250 just west of County Road 44.

Mary K. Durbin Aken, 60, of New Philadelphia, was traveling eastbound on US 250 when she lost control and slid sideways into the westbound lanes, directly into the path of a Wayne County snow plow truck, driven by 60-year-old Keith Badertscher.

Badertscher attempted to avoid hitting Durbin Aken by swerving to the right. His truck struck the passenger side of Durbin's car, a 2006 Toyota Matrix. The plow on the truck entered her car, causing heavy bodily injuries.

Durbin Aken was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was transported to the Wooster Community Hospital via the Wayne County Coroners office.

Badertscher was taken to the same hospital by Apple Creek Fire Department for minor injuries.

Ohio State Highway Patrol was on the scene, along with the Apple Creek Police and Fire departments and the Wayne County Coroner's office. A OSHP Traffic Crash Reconstructionist was also on the scene.

This accident is the first fatal crash in Wayne County in 2014.

Highway Patrol is urging motorists to slow down in snowy conditions.
