Another arctic cold night ahead

ANOTHER ARCTIC COLD TUESDAY NIGHT: Many locations in the viewing area will fail to rise above freezing for the second day in a row. In fact, for some areas it could be mid to late morning on Wednesday before we go above freezing -- a span of roughly 58 hours. Tuesday night we are headed back to the arctic freezer and another record will be threatened. The record for Jan. 8 is 15 degrees, which was set in 1970. We should be close to that level overnight. The best news is, the winds will die down and wind chill will not be a record. This morning we also broke the record from 1970.

WARM-UP AHEAD: Wednesday will be a little warmer, although still several degrees below normal as we climb to the lower 40's. Another night of freezing temperatures is in the cards for Wednesday night as we fall to the upper 20's.  Thursday will feel much nicer as we break into the lower 50's and a near normal upper 50's day is expected on Friday. Sixties will be the rule this weekend and that will feel like a heatwave.

NEXT STORM SYSTEM: With 60's in place, periods of rain will be around Saturday and maybe even Sunday. We can't even rule out the rumble of thunder or two. The models are suggesting that we could see more than an inch of rain in spots.

LONGER RANGE: The models over the next two to three weeks depict what could be a wild roller coaster ride. There could be another arctic intrusion perhaps toward the 17th and 18th, followed by a wild swing to warmer and stormy at times. Strap yourself in. It could be a rather wild January!
