SOUTH EUCLID, OH (WOIO) - The U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested 28-year-old Carl Hampton Jr., who was wanted by the South Euclid Police for felonious assault.
Hampton is suspected of beating up a man after the two were involved in an argument.
The victim was 34-year-old Eugene Warren, who died from his injuries a week after the assault.
The NOVFTF obtained information about the rental car Hampton was driving and a possible location of the car.
Members of the NOVFTF, with the assistance of the Lakewood Police, discovered the car near the 18800 block of Detroit Ext. in Lakewood on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 1 a.m.
The NOVFTF set up surveillance in the area and narrowed their search to one particular apartment building.
After several hours of surveillance Hampton realized he was surrounded and had nowhere left to hide.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., Hampton came out of the apartment and was arrested in the lobby of the apartment building.
Hampton was transported to the South Euclid Police Department.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said, "The patience and perseverance of the members of the task force paid off in full with the apprehension of Hampton. Their dedication got another violent fugitive off the street."
South Euclid Police Chief Nietert said, "The South Euclid Police Department appreciates the assistance of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in the apprehension of Hampton. We are fortunate to have them to help in our area."
