SUMMIT COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - A daycare worker hid behind a wall at the First Class Daycare in Northfield Center to answer questions when 19 Action News arrived.
Police say what happened there was anything but first rate childcare. A parent called police because she suspected the owner, Dana Gruszka, was drunk.
"When our deputy arrived he met Dana at the door. He also felt like she might be under the influence of something. He smelled an odor of alcohol. Her speech was slurred," said Inspector Bill Holland, Summit County Sheriff's Dept.
Police say Gruszka refused a sobriety test five times. She was arrested and taken to jail. There were 24 children at the daycare at the time. Luckily there were other childcare workers there, but Gruszka is the one who was ultimately in charge.
"When the deputy questioned if she had had anything to drink, she denied having anything to drink that day," Inspector Holland added.
Gruszka's now charged with 24 counts of child endangering. Her daycare is being investigated.
There was no answer at the door of her home and calls to her home didn't go through. Police say she may also be in trouble for giving Investigators the wrong home address. Meanwhile, First Class Daycare is still up and running.
