Because Denver and Seattle are still alive the Browns cannot pursue two assistant coaches they have on their short list of coaching candidates.
Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase remains off limits, he has said he would not do any interviews until after they were done playing. Seattle's Dan Quinn cannot return to Cleveland for a second interview either. Quinn did talk with the Browns a few weeks ago, he was the first candidate they interviewed, but they want a second interview.
Buffalo defensive coordinator Mike Pettine can talk with the Browns a second time, and according to some reports he will get a second interview. It appears that Pettine, Quinn and Gase are the three the Browns are honing in on. Whether or not they want to make a move and hire Pettine before talking with Gase or Quinn will be something to watch over the next several days.
