CHESTER TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - The Chase Bank in Chester Township was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Geauga County Sheriff, the suspect called police and said that his wife was crazy and shot him. He gave an address on Sandgate Circle, and then hung up. Police units were dispatched immediately.
Just as officers arrived to the Sandgate Circle address, they learned the Chase Bank was robbed at gunpoint.
Nothing was found at the Sandgate Circle address.
According to witnesses, the robbery suspect is described at a white man in his late 40s, wearing a blue stocking cap with yellow lettering, dark sunglasses and a scarf over his face. He is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 225 pounds.
Following the robbery, the suspect ran out the back door into a very dirty gray or slate blue van with something red, possibly a large rubberband, covering the license plate to obscure it. He was last seen traveling down Mayfield Road.
19 Action News has learned the suspect used a black semi-automatic pistol during the robbery.
