(WOIO) - Well, they did it again. The City of Cleveland said no to a McDonalds on Lorain Avenue at the intersection of Fulton. First the planning commission said no – and now a no vote from the zoning board of appeals.
So let's take a look at what is going on here. Councilman Joe Cimperman and the neighborhood have been against the McDonalds from the start, saying it would bring too much traffic and be a danger to pedestrians. They would rather look at the abandoned Hollywood Video store which stands there now and just a thousand feet down the street is a Wendy's.
The City of Lakewood, you know, put up the same stink three years ago when McDonalds wanted to build on Detroit, tearing down the fire-damaged Detroit Theatre. In the end, though, McDonalds prevailed and they built a tasteful building with nice landscaping and there have been no complaints and no traffic problems.
You know, for a city that constantly says it wants to be business friendly it's time for Joe Cimperman and city leaders to stop acting like "McSnobs".
