On Tuesday, January 21, at 12:38 p.m., Ohio State Troopers stopped a 2013 Chevrolet Captiva for driving-left-of-center on Miles Avenue, near E.144th Street in Cleveland.
During the traffic stop troopers noticed a digital scale and a large bulge in the back of the driver's trousers.
While attempting to handcuff the suspect a brief struggle ensued.
During a subsequent search of the suspect, troopers discovered 78 grams of heroin, two grams of crack cocaine and three Suboxone pills.
A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle revealed an additional 123 Suboxone strips and $1,505.
The street value of the drugs is estimated to be about $14,000.
The driver has been identified as Dennis J. Coates Jr., 29, of Maple Heights
Coates was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail and charged with possession and trafficking in drugs, both first-degree felonies; possession of a schedule III drug, a third-degree felony; and possession of crack cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.
