KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police say the owner of a Claycomo automotive shop is dead and his daughter has critical injuries after a shooting Friday night.

The shooting happened at Clay County Engine Rebuilders, an automotive shop located on the intersection of NE Munger Road and NE Vivion Road.

Authorities say the owner, Ray Littrell, was killed and his daughter was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Littrell's friends and neighbors rushed to his shop to see if the rumors were true - that who they call a pillar of the community was killed. Many were overcome by grief and others in disbelief over the murder.

"He was just a good guy, very well-respected in the community and this is just shocking," said Christina Smith, a family friend.

Smith remembers Littrell as a big racing fan who went above and beyond to help anyone.

"He's been a supporter of our racing for a long time, our race trailer's behind his shop. I've known him a long time. He's a great guy," she said.

Now Smith and the community is hoping Littrell's daughter pulls through. She offers a glimmer of hope for the community grieving the loss of the neighborhood patriarch.

"He (Littrell) just a big old bear who would do anything for anybody. It's sad," Smith said.

Police said the shooting took place near the garage door that opened into the automotive shop about 5 p.m.

Authorities say it was a family dispute that may involve a child custody case.

The Clay County Sheriff's Department said they received a call about 7:30 p.m. from a family member of Frank Littrell, Ray Littrell's son. The family member told the sheriff's office that she was with Frank Littrell and he wanted to turn himself in for the double shooting.

The family member drove Frank Littrell to the sheriff's office where they and Liberty police took him into custody.

A second unrelated shooting was reported at the Stonegate Meadows Apartments, located at East 42nd Street just south of Interstate 70, in Kansas City, MO.

When officers arrived they found a man in his mid-20s in the grass near the clubhouse. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses said they heard shots and saw someone running from the area. Police ask that anyone with information call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477)
