An Evansville man was seriously hurt in an early morning shooting in downtown Evansville that police believe to be gang related.

Officers say 24-year-old Timothy Rice was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds in critical condition.

Police say two officers were on-duty Saturday morning around 2:00 a.m. when they saw three males with handguns in an alleyway near South Third Street. Officers say those three men started firing their weapons at the same time.

Two men attempted to get away in a vehicle, but officers caught them near the intersection of SE Third and SE Second Streets. The third man was also caught nearby.

Police arrested 22-year-old Tony Johnson and 23-year-old Torrance Mimms on charges of attempted murder with firearm and criminal gang activity.

21-year-old Luther Lawton was also arrested and is facing a criminal gang activity charge.

Police say they believe all involved are active gang members. They tell us that Rice is believed to be in a rival gang of those men who were arrested.
