The NHL this weekend drew the highest ratings hockey has ever received in the Los Angeles market. The NHL opened the Stadium Series this weekend with games at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles and Yankee Stadium in New York.
The game on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils drew a 5.1 rating in the New York market, and also drew 50,000 fans in attendance.
The Saturday night game at Dodger Stadium between the LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks drew a 2.38 rating in the LA market. Not a huge number ratings wise but it broke the record for the network on what is considered the worst TV night of the week, the rating also equates to a lot of eyeballs watching the screen, judging by the volume of the market itself.
For the NHL the ratings should be encouraging, as the ratings are very good for regular season games in January, their gamble to put hockey games in outdoor stadiums seems to be paying off.
