GEAUGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - One Geauga County dairy farmer found a way to make sure he has more milk - with a big investment.
Bill Timmons operates a fifth generation dairy farm with over 200 cows in Auburn Township. He invested more than a million dollars in waterbeds for his cows.
The benefits are twofold, the beds keep the animals warmer and they also encourage the cows to lie down, which they don't like to do on concrete. When a cow lies down, milk production goes up.
That means three-and-a-half pounds more milk for every hour the cows lie down making the investment worthwhile, and you gotta think, making the cows happy cows.
