OHIO CITY, OH (WOIO) -

The Happy Dog remains closed as friends, family and coworkers mourn the death of local music enthusiast and activist Sean Kilbane.

The entire community is reflecting on his life's work after his unexpected passing Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.

Mr. Kilbane fell down the stairs at his popular bar and died from his injuries.

The Happy Dog is located in the Gordon Square Arts District, but the mourning is extended well past those city streets.

Neighbors say he worked wonders to promote his three passions, the hot dog, musicians and the neighborhood.

Kilbane is noted for giving struggling musicians a chance when no one else would.

His zest for life made the Happy Dog a success and the energy spread throughout the entire area.

Judy Feniger is the president of the Gordon Square Arts District and she pointed out that everyone who works and does business there owes Mr. Kilbane a huge debt of gratitude.

"He's a great reason why the district is what it is," she cemented.

A date for when the Happy Dog will reopen has yet to be announced, or the details for his funeral released.
