Drugs, alcohol suspected in deadly head-on crash

PERRY TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - An investigation is underway after a deadly head-on collision in Stark County.

It happened on US Route 30 in Perry Township just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

A black 2014 Kia Forte was traveling west on US 30 and traveled off the left side of the roadway across the median striking a silver 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan head-on. Both vehicles continued off the roadway overturning on the south side of the roadway. The drivers from both vehicles along with the passenger were ejected,

The Kia Forte was operated by Jeffrey A. Mayforth, 21. The Dodge Grand Caravan was operated by Christopher Zehe, 51.

Mayforth was transported by Massillon Fire to Mercy Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. He is suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He submitted to a blood test while being treated at Mercy Medical Center.

Zehe was transported by Perry Township Fire and was pronounced dead.

Alcohol and marijuana are suspected to be factors in the crash. All those involved in the crash were not wearing a safety belt.

The crash remains under investigation and will be reviewed by Massillon City Prosecutor's Office for applicable charges.
