JEFFERSON, OH (WOIO) - A wrestling coach at Lakeside High School in Ashtabula has been charged in connection to an assault on school grounds.
The Ashtabula County Prosecutor says that Jerry Brady has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Brady is accused of watching a member of his wrestling team severely beat another student on Jan. 21. over a wrestling gym bag.
Police say the victim was confronted by several members of the wrestling team over the bag. When the suspect tried to take the victim's bag away, the victim punched him once. The suspect is then accused of repeatedly punching the victim in the head and face.
According to Prosecutors, Brady is accused of witnessing the assault, and is also accused of encouraging the suspect when another adult tried to intervene because the victim threw the first punch.
The teenage suspect was arrested for robbery and assault.
Brady is due in court next month. He has since been placed on paid administrative leave.
