Repeat sex offender heading back to prison

Repeat sex offender David Fowler has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Fowler, 34, of Cleveland, was sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge Timothy McCormick Wednesday morning.

Fowler had entered a plea of no contest to four counts of importuning on December 18, 2013.

In May 2012, Fowler had engaged in online conversations with two investigators from the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

One investigator was posing as a 13-year-old girl, the other as a 14-year-old girl. Fowler solicited both girls for sex and eventually traveled to meet the 14-year-old.

He was arrested and entered a plea of guilty to one count of attempted unlawful sexual conduct and three counts of importuning. He was sentenced to one year and three months in prison and was released on August 21, 2013.

On September 7, 2013, Fowler resumed his online conversation with one of the undercover profiles used in the previous case. Fowler picked up where he had left off with the presumed minor, mentioning that they had been planning to meet at a nearby mall.

On September 10, 2013, Fowler explicitly told the minor child that he wanted to engage in sexual activity. When the undercover officer raised concerns about getting pregnant, Fowler indicated that he would "take care of" her or "use condoms."

Fowler engaged in similar inappropriate conversations with the undercover investigator on September 11, September 17 and October 1.

On October 10, 2013, Fowler was arrested while attending a class at Bryant and Stratton College.

"Mr. Fowler wasted little time in demonstrating the threat that he represents to our children," said Assistant County Prosecutor Brett Kyker, who serves as director of the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and who prosecuted this case for the State of Ohio.

"Our community is a much safer place with this predator behind bars. He now has an additional four years to learn the lesson that he could not learn in fifteen months."
