LORAIN, OH (WOIO) - A 62-year old brakeman was killed on the job today at Republic Steel in Lorain.
The Lorain County coroner's office is not releasing the name of the gentleman involved in the horrible accident at the rail yard.
Dr. Stephen Evans with the coroner's office tells 19 Action News the tragic death involved two trains.
Republic Steel has also launched their own investigation to ensure the future safety of other employees.
In a statement released to 19 Action News, Republic Steel officials said, "This is shocking and tragic news for all of us but especially for the family, friends and colleagues of our employee."
All production at the Lorain Plant was stopped for the day and all employees were sent home. Republic Steel's Employee Assistance Program will be available on-site to help all employees with additional information.
