ELYRIA TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - A 22-year-old Oberlin man was injured after the car he was driving was struck by a train.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Jeffrey Arndt drove through the crossing gate on the north side of the railroad tracks on West Ridge Road in Lorain County. Witnesses reported the gate was down and the red lights were flashing, indicating a train was approaching. Arndt's vehicle was subsequently struck by an eastbound train.
He was transported to University Hospital in Elyria and was treated for apparent minor injuries. Jeffrey Arndt was then arrested for OVI, driving under suspension for OVI, refusal of a breathalyzer, and failure to obey a railroad crossing signal.
The Ohio Highway Patrol suspects drug use is a factor in the crash.
