A Cleveland teacher is facing charges for allegedly pushing a nine-year-old student to the ground in a dispute over a pop bottle.
Bruce Ballard is facing charges of assault and criminal activity on school property.
Police and court records show Ballard forced a child to the ground last month at Clark Elementary School on the city's west side.
According to the police report, the student says Ballard asked him to hand over the pop bottle two times. The student refused to do so. The student then says the teacher, "snatched the bottle and slammed him to the floor."
Ballard wrote a statement saying the student became "physically aggressive" with him as he tried to take the pop bottle he had in his mouth.
Ballard claimed he was concerned the student could be hurt by the bottle being jammed in his mouth.
Investigators took statements from other students and teachers before filing the charges.
Ballard is due in court on March 6.
