MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - On Cleveland's East side residents, and homeowners especially, are keeping a close eye on the Chagrin and Grand Rivers.
In Eastlake and in Willoughby, the Chagrin River is up close and personal.
In Mentor, families are keeping their fingers crossed.
"Ugh. The basement could be flooding," remarked Chris Reschke.
The Reschke's of Mentor have dried out from flood water damage to their basement over and over again to the tune of $25,000.
In fact, they're just getting new flooring, drywall, and furniture in from the last time they sustained flood damage.
So, for Chris Reschke to watch the forecast for more rain and warmer temps means preparation.
"Just mentally prepare for it. Get the shop vac out, have an alarm on the floor to let us know if water's seeping in. We have a sump pump outside. You just wait, and wait, and wait and hope it doesn't happen," Reschke told 19 Action News.
The Two Town Creek at the end of his street, South Grove Road, takes its cues from the Chagrin River.
When the Chagrin rises and rumbles because of excessive rain and melting ice and snow, so does the creek.
"Your choices are to go to bed, listen for the alarm or stay up and be proactive," said Reschke.
