ROCKY RIVER, OH (WOIO) - All week 19 Action News has been following a group of homeowners down the Rocky River and when the ice jams broke it got really scary.
19 Action News was up on the bridge on Detroit Road as the Rocky River started to break up.
John Emack from Rocky River observed, "Suddenly the entire river started moving. Extremely fast like a freight train."
Since Monday February 17, we've watched the Rocky River thaw with several homeowners along the frozen banks.
"It was a little scary for a few minutes," said homeowner Dan Wentwork.
Wentwork was still in his home just several feet away from the river when it started to move.
Wentwork added, "It came up about six feet on this side but on the other side we could see the tops of the ice going by probably eight to ten feet in the air. It was going 10-to-20 mph. It was zooming down the river."
For now, there aren't any homes flooded.
"I have one of my elderly neighbors in my house. We got him out just in the nick of time," a relieved Pam Baron said.
There is still ice in the river that is thawing so we will continue to keep our fingers crossed for homeowners along the river.
