Flooding Problems!

The flooding this weekend is the worst it's been in 15 years. The flooding this weekend is the worst it's been in 15 years.

The Vermilion River crested its banks Saturday, Feb. 22 by several feet, and sent tons of freezing water and huge ice chunks into the nearby communIty.

"All this ice kept bumping against the house. We thought it was going to take the whole street out," said resident Hugh Coyle, whose home took a direct hit with big losses.

"We're talking about flooring, washer and dryer, refrigerator, and dishwasher," said Coyle.

When the ice broke free some 32,000 cubic feet of water rushed by every second, pushing tons of ice and steamrolling parts of this riverside community.

"The water was up to your shoulders in the street," said Coyle.

Six people in four homes had to be evacuated.

No injuries were reported.

And last check, the river level had dropped by more than a foot and a half, leaving riverside residents with the hope that the worst is over.
