Malloy wins friendly wager with Kentucky governor on national championship game

Gov. Dannel Malloy won his wager with Gov. Steve Beshear of Kentucky when the Huskies defeated the Wildcats, 60-54, in the national championship game in Arlington, TX, on Monday night.

Malloy won Beshear's fully-stocked bourbon bar.

The bourbon includes some of Kentucky's premium brands like Woodford Reserve, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey, Jim Beam, Bulleit Bourbon, Four Roses, Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, Town Branch, Willett, Old Pogue, Michter's and Corsair Bourbon. Barware and glasses would also be included.

Malloy had wagered Connecticut wine, beer and chocolate on the line against the bourbon. The wine Malloy is wagering comes from Jones Family Farms in Shelton, the beer is from the Two Roads Brewing Company in Stratford and the chocolate is from Munson's.

Malloy said he felt confident that the Huskies would defeat the Wildcats.

"The UConn men, led by Coach Kevin Ollie, are in the midst of an amazing season, and our whole state is behind them for the win," Malloy said in a statement on Monday. "The Wildcats are a formidable team, but I am confident that the Huskies will bring home another championship title."

Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and Indiana Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann have formally announced that they have "a friendly wager on the outcome" of UConn women's basketball team playing Notre Dame Tuesday night.

If Notre Dame wins, Ellspermann will receive a basket of Connecticut chocolate, cheese, syrup and wine.

While if UConn wins, Wyman will receive chocolates from the "famous South Bend Chocolate company and other Indiana products."

The game, which is being played in Nashville, TN, is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start on ESPN.
