CANTON, OH (WOIO) -

Canton Police, the Summit County Bomb Squad and an explosives detection bomb dog responded to a call on Saturday, April 12 of a possible pipe bomb.

After hitting the questionable material with a water cannon the Summit County Bomb Squad determined this was a false alarm and cleared the scene at 9:19 p.m.

A spokesman with Canton police described the object as a plastic-type object with wires sticking out.

"It looked like a pipe bomb and that's why they took these precautionary measures." offered Sergeant Doug Zartman of the Canton Police.

Canton Police received the call at 5:25 p.m. that a questionable pipe was discovered in front of a residence in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue SW.

Lieutenant Dan McCartney with the Canton Police said the device was located on a curb near a pile of garbage.

"A bunch of trash was out there. This item was among the debris on the curb." explained McCartney.

A resident putting out trash made the discovery.
