MASON, OH (FOX19) -

Kings Island opens Friday for its 2014 season and on Thursday's FOX19 Morning News meteorologist Frank Marzullo has a preview of the new Banshee roller coaster.

Frank will climb aboard the ride that Kings Island says is the longest inverted roller coaster in the world.

The inverted roller coaster features seven inversions and is 4,124 feet long. It reaches speeds up to 68 mph.

The ride also has a:

  • 167-foot lift hill
  • 150-foot curved first drop
  • dive loop
  • vertical loop encircling the lift hill
  • zero-gravity roll
  • pair of "batwing" inversions
  • outside loop
  • spiral
  • in-line roll and a
  • carousel

The ride is themed to a wailing mythological messenger from the underworld with flowing white hair and gleaming eyes. Textured lighting and other lighting effects will bring the Banshee legend to reality, creating the ultimate night ride experience.

Banshee will be the 15th roller coaster at Kings Island, which is home to some of the top-ranked roller coasters in the world in annual industry and enthusiast polls including The Beast and Diamondback.

The ride lasts 2:40.
