AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron Detectives investigating the brutal beating death of a 69-year old Canton man have arrested the victim's ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

Paul A. Reed, 38, and Tiffany A. Powell, 32, both of Minota Avenue, are locked up and charged aggravated murder and obstructing official business in the death of James M. Harris of OJays Parkway NE.

Police say the couple asked him to come over Saturday, April 26, 2014 to look at a car for sale.

Once inside Harris was hit over his head then beaten to death. He was found unresponsive.

Powell then called 911 claiming someone had just broken into her home and a fight ensued.

Also at the home was Harris' son and his five daughters. They drove him there and were waiting outside in a car. Police say his children had no idea something was going on inside until the cops pulled up.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide.

Police also say James Harris and Tiffany Powell have children together.
