John Axford came on with a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning on Sunday and turned it into a 4-3 loss. Walks to Gordon Beckham and Adam Dunn set up a three-run home run by Dayan Viciedo to put Chicago ahead after being dominated most of the day by Corey Kluber.
Kluber gave up a first inning home run to Jose Abreau, but settled down and pitched very well. He went eight innings allowing only the one run on three hits and two walks. He struck out 13 batters, at one point whiffing seven in a row, a new franchise record.
George Kattaros provided most of the offense for Cleveland. He hit home runs in each of his first two at bats, both solo drives. The back up catcher, playing only because Yan Gomes is on the paternity list, was only 2-for-25 for the season in Triple-A Columbus.
