Ex-Cleveland cop is sentenced to 9 years after rape conviction

Gregory Jones at sentencing Gregory Jones at sentencing

In April 2014 former Cleveland Police Officer Gregory Jones was convicted of rape and kidnapping and on Friday, May 16, he was sentenced to nine years in prison.

At the start of the hearing, things intensified for Jones when he would not cooperate with Judge Steven Gall.  When prompted to fill out a form stating that he understood his responsibility as a sex offender, Jones refused. When Judge Gall asked Jones if he understood what was being asked of him, he would not give confirmation. The hearing ended with Jones neither signing the form nor answering the Judge's questions about his new obligation.

On July 13, 2012, Jones, 48, sexually assaulted a 34-year-old female victim of Chicago. The victim was visiting friends at a home on Ohio Avenue in Cleveland and was introduced to Jones through a mutual friend.

After the group of friends watched a movie, Jones announced he was leaving and the victim walked him out. Jones asked the victim if she would like a tour of the neighborhood and they drove to his home. Jones informed the victim he had to go inside and she accompanied him.

Jones attempted to force the victim to perform oral sex. The victim refused and Jones raped her. Jones then told the victim to take a shower, she refused and walked back to her friend's house.

The victim stated to police that Jones told her he was sorry and asked her not to tell their mutual friend. The victim called other friends to pick her up and they took her to the hospital where she was treated and released.
