HIGHLAND HEIGHTS (FOX19) -

Former Northern Kentucky University Athletic Director Scott Eaton will serve ten years in prison and pay back the hundreds of thousands of dollars that he admitted to stealing for personal use.

A Campbell County judge sentenced Eaton on Thursday after accepting a plea deal last month.

Eaton was fired in March 2013 for having inappropriate relationships with four NKU employees and one adult student. An investigation by the Kentucky Attorney General's office found Eaton stole from the school's athletic fund for personal use.

According to Attorney General Jack Conway, Eaton bought $262,106 worth of Kroger gift cards with his university credit card, and then used those gift cards to buy items for himself. Authorities said he also bought items directly with the university credit card that totaled $32,919, among other unlawful purchases.

Conway said the money Eaton stole equals the tuition for 40 students at NKU and is larger than most yearly budgets for the largest programs at the university.
