Some of the best test scores in Cleveland -- are coming from a school that focuses on math and science.

Reporter Dan Deroos looks at how Horizon Science Academy is motivating students with technology.

It is an inner city community charter school that seems to be working. The free K-through-12 school has open enrollment.

Kids that attend are driven to not only graduate but to prepare for college. There are 83 seniors in the class and all 83 are graduating.

What's even better than that all 83 have been accepted to some form of college.

"I remember in ninth grade they had us doing ACT practice so the whole goal of us was trying to get in college, because we need to take that test to do it," said a Horizon student.

A wall inside the school speaks volumes. On it is some of this years graduates and the colleges they've been accepted to. The large dollar amounts next to their pictures are scholarship amounts they've been awarded. All total $3.5 million.

"I think it's just the atmosphere. The students and the teachers they all push you to want to be better. They push you to get your GPA's higher. We all have competitions to see who can get the highest GPA," stated another student.

Horizon's state test scores rival some of the most successful suburban schools -- pretty impressive when you consider funding per student here is about half of what it is in the suburbs.
