MEDINA, OH (WOIO) -

Michelle Radke was sick 10 days ago, her back went out and she now regrets asking her husband to take her place at Huntington Beach to celebrate their daughter's birthday.

Pete Radke jumped in the water to save the life of a teenage girl.

"Would I have jumped in too? I don't know, I'm a strong swimmer too,"  Michelle said. "Maybe I can help."

The father of four has always been a hero to his family. On May 31, he sacrificed his life for another.  He lived the bible he read everyday.

"Peter never had any doubt. Peter never wavered, he was not afraid to die on this earth he knew that this wasn't his home," said Michelle.

Home is different now, his children feel the loss but are forging ahead.

"Oh my gosh," says Michelle. "He would be incredibly proud of them. They have really stepped up and have gone on this week."

Owen is Pete's oldest son, at the age of 10, has been asked if he is the man of the house.

"I haven't really thought about it until someone else told me five days ago," said Owen.

He also promises to try and fill his dad's shoes.

His sister Hannah asked if he would walk her down the isle.

"I guess," replies Owen.

It will be a tough journey without Pete. So their friends are fundraising on June 19. Most Northeast Ohio Bob Evan's restaurants will donate 15 percent of sales to the family.  All you need to do is print out this flyer and show it at check out.

"Just remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers that will mean a lot to us," said Michelle.
