LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The gunman in a shooting rampage that killed two police officers and a bystander died from shots fired from law enforcement, Las Vegas Metro police said Wednesday.

The determination differed from what was originally said about the death of Jared Miller on Sunday. After the shooting, police believed the other armed suspect and Jared Miller's wife, Amanda Miller, shot and killed her husband before she turned the gun herself.

Police also said none of Amanda Miller's rounds struck her husband.

The detail was announced along with other new information and the release of a brief surveillance video of the incident during a briefing at Metro headquarters on Wednesday.

Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill presented the clip of Amanda Miller and Jared Miller on the ground during the shootout with police inside a Walmart.

The surveillance video showed a person identified as Amanda Miller pointing a handgun at Jared Miller along with police radio traffic that relayed information to officers in the confrontation. The video shown to reporters went to black once shots to Jared Miller was noted.

McMahill also addressed certain questions posed after the shooting, including previous police contact with the two suspects in the case.

McMahill said counter-terrorism investigators first learned of Jared Miller in February this year after he expressed a threat to Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles. In the probe, Jared Miller was stated as saying he would shoot anyone who would arrest him for a suspended driver's license during a traffic stop in Boulder City.

His license was removed, though, he claimed to never threatening to shoot anyone, McMahill said.

Investigators closed the case after determining there was no need for an arrest.

McMahill also explained two additional times when police contacted the suspects:

  • April 10, 2014: Officers were called to the couple's apartment complex on a report of battery/domestic violence. The suspects were witnesses to the case.
  • May 31, 2014: Couple gave voluntary statements in a sexual assault case involving an acquaintance.

McMahill said neither Jared Miller nor Amanda Miller expressed anti-government or anti-police sentiments during those times.

Metro also released information on the three firearms used by the couple, saying all three appeared to be neither registered in Nevada nor stolen.

Police were still looking into how the weapons were acquired, though, they noted a revolver and a pump-handle shotgun were both purchased in Indiana.

McMahill also noted an officer in the shootout with the suspects later found a shrapnel wound in his thigh.

Metro said it reverted its officers back to normal shifts beginning early Wednesday morning. Since the shooting, officers were ordered to work with partners as part of doubled patrols.

Later Wednesday, funeral plans were set for Officer Alyn Beck and Officer Igor Soldo. There was no word on a service for Walmart victim Joseph Wilcox.
