Just standing outside is bad enough, but with the sun beating down on a few windows and you've got yourself an oven.

Now imagine the Rock Hall -- but workers started cooling it off Tuesday.

Have you noticed that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame looks a little different these days but haven't been able to put your finger on exactly what it is.  On a day with the sun blazing on the building it's the perfect time to tell you.

Sheets of film are being applied to each of the Rock Hall's 1500 glass windows. The guys doing the work have to rappel down the steep slope of the hall's exterior to do it.

The film is applied after soapy water is applied to each window, making things even more slippery up there.

"Fighting the wind, that's one of the toughest, trying to get it nice and clean, getting your edges nice and sealed," said Jeff Innocenti.

The outside work has to do with the stuff inside -- priceless rock artifacts.

"The three most dangerous things to artifacts are light, heat and humidity and we have a glass tent on a lake, so it's a challenge," said Todd Mesek.

The panels cut damaging UV from the sun by 97% but also infrared by 99% which will translate to energy bills about 25% lower. Estimates are savings of $20-to-$30 thousand a year.  The film has a low metal content so should last.

"We have John Lennon's guitar, the original hand written lyrics to Purple Haze.  And our curators want to make sure those things are around in a hundred years," added Todd Mesek.

Ever since it opened nearly 20 years ago the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been one of the coolest places in Cleveland. With the installation of the film they figured out a way to make it even cooler.
