(WMC) - Methodist University Hospital confirms that Henri Brooks resigned from her job at the hospital.

The Shelby County commissioner worked as a community, government researcher specialist with its Congregational Health Network (CHN). She has worked with the hospital since 2006.

Last week, Brooks was arrested for simple assault after a bizarre parking accident in the parking lot at the hospital. On Monday, the news broke that the county had a residency investigation underway for Brooks.

Fellow commissioner Terry Roland filed a formal challenge to all Brooks' votes until the county attorney can verify if Brooks lives in the district she represents.

It's a seat that may be vacated immediately if she does not, but Brooks is term-limited. She will be out of office within months anyway.

She is currently on the ballot running for Juvenile Court Clerk, and there is nothing stopping her.

"We're not going to step in and say, 'Oh, you can't run anymore,'" said Shelby County Election Commission Chairman Robert Meyers. "Essentially once we've certified the ballot, we've lost the ability to make any real changes."

Meyers explained that neither a pending legal case nor questions about this address matter for her eligibility is a factor in the August 7 election.

"Typically those rules for county offices just require you live in the county, and the fact that your address is perhaps not listed correctly on your petition is not going to create a lot of heartburn for us," he said.

Brooks did not answer WMC Action News 5's call for comment. Her attorney declined comment.

No one was around at the address listed on a police incident report and on her filing documents with the Shelby County election commission. The front yard is bare just one day after sporting Brooks' campaign sign.

Her opponent and current juvenile court clerk Joy Touliatos declined an interview through a spokesman, who said, "We're going to pass for right now. We're just going to let it go."

A third candidate is in the race, Independent Morrie E. Noel.

The Shelby County attorney's office says it expects to present a finding on its investigation to the Shelby County commission within a couple of weeks.

Also, Brooks made headlines when she made controversial comments about "minority contractors" during a commission meeting.
