Man arrested after fleeing the scene of a fatal accident in Stark County

A 20-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning, accused of causing a fatal accident on I-77 near Fohl Road.

The two car wreck happened around 5:30 a.m.

Ohio Highway Patrol Troopers say Jesus Pelico of North Philadelphia was driving a 2003 Dodge passenger van when he lost control, crossed the grassy median and struck a pick-up truck head-on.

The driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at Aultman Hospital.  He has been id'd as Leone Turpin, 28, of Canton.

After the crash, Pelico allegedly fled from the scene. Troopers and Stark County Sheriff Deputies set up a search zone and quickly captured him.

Witnesses on scene stated there may have been multiple people who fled the scene, so a lengthy search was conducted in the area utilizing canine officers and the Highway Patrol's Aviation Unit. No other persons were found that may have been associated with the crash.

Pelico was not injured in the crash. He has been taken into custody and booked into the Stark County Jail. Troopers are consulting with the Canton City Prosecutors Office for criminal charges against Pelico.

Alcohol is a factor in the crash.
