High school senior dies from caffeine overdose

Keystone High School senior dies of caffeine overdose. Keystone High School senior dies of caffeine overdose.

A stimulant that wakes you up in the morning has killed a LaGrange teen.

The Keystone High School senior had a deadly amount of caffeine in his system when he was found.

Logan Stiner died a week before his high school graduation this past May. Family members say he was a role model in the classroom and on the high school wrestling team.

"So dynamic.  The type of kid people where just draw towards.  Lead student. 4.35 grade point average.  Just got  confirmation he had a full academic scholarship to  Toledo University for  chemical engineering," says family spokesperson Scott Dillen.

The Lorain County Coroner says the caffeine caused Stiner to have a cardiac arrhythmia and a seizure.

Logan's mom tells 19 Action News that a single small bag of caffeine powder was found in the house.

"We have every reason to believe this was the first time Logan was in touch with this," says Dillen.

You can purchase caffeine powder on the web for under 20 bucks.

Logan's family wants his death to be a warning to others in order to save lives.

"This stuff is available on the internet and people have to know if can happen to Logan... it can happen to anybody," says Dillen.
