Area fire departments receive life saving devices for pets

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg and Petal Fire Departments and the Forrest County volunteer departments took possession of pet resuscitator masks that can be used to help save the lives of family pets that have been caught in a house fire.

A total of 21 resuscitators were donated with eight each going to Hattiesburg and Forrest County and three to Petal. The masks came from the A Pet's Memory, Pet Funeral Home and Crematorium in Gulfport. The donation was made possible by a local resident in the Hattiesburg area who made the donation for the kits in memory of his beloved 15-year-old cat Alley.

A Pet's Memory has been donating the mask kits to fire departments for the last five-years and thus far have to donated to several departments along the coast and in South Mississippi.

"We as families go to work, go to movies and dinner and it's a comforting thought to know that if something should happen back at our home the fire departments are equipped with equipment that can save our pets lives," said Linda Sumrall, Owner, A Pet's Memory.

Each of the kits come with a small, medium, and large mask that can fit a variety of sizes and types of animals.
